 SO WHAT’S THE PLAN?

On November 7th, 2023, Ohioans will have the opportunity to vote to protect access to safe abortion care, miscarriage management, infertility treatment, birth control in the Ohio constitution via a citizen-lead constitutional amendment.

Voting YES for Issue 1, The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety, will remove politicians from personal, private decisions and stops the government from dictating what’s best for our families.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. If we do not act this November, by voting YES on Issue 1, then extremist politicians will have the ability to completely ban and criminalize abortion – even in cases of rape and incest.

 Disinformation, Misinformation and Trust

Breaking Down the Details

What is a Citizen-Initiative Constitutional Amendment?

The ability to make direct changes to the Ohio constitution has been a right of Ohioans for over 110 years. It provides the avenue for citizens to have a direct say in issues that they feel are not adequately being addressed by their elected officials.

What is needed to get an amendment on the ballot through a citizen-lead constitutional amendment?

There are essentially 10 overarching steps need to take a citizen-lead constitutional amendment from an idea to it showing up on the ballot. You can find all the nitty gritty details here on the Ohio Secretary of State website. But we’ll break it down a bit for you here in 5 steps:

  1. Develop amendment language that is approved by the Ohio Attorney General to be circulated as a petition.
  2. Gather over 413,000 VALID signatures from registered Ohio voters, from at least 44 of Ohio’s 88 counties.
  3. Submit signatures to the Ohio Secretary of State for validation and certification.
  4. Ohio Ballot Board drafts and determines the summary language of the amendment that will appear on the ballot.
  5. Ohioans vote on the proposed amendment at the ballot box on November 7th, 2023.
