our top issues in 2025
Feeling overwhelmed? We get it. We’ve all got so many issues on our minds right now. We don’t tell Red Wine & Blue women what to care about – you tell us what matters most to you.
And remember, when they go low, we go local. So we’re especially focused on the impact these issues have on our local communities.
If an issue you are concerned about isn’t included on this list, let us know. Chances are, it concerns us, too. We can provide you with additional information and connect you with partner organizations that can help.
EXTREMISM
Extremists across the country are attacking our families and freedoms. We’re seeing it everywhere – from the White House to our statehouses, in our social media feeds, and in politicians running for office in every level of our government. Extremism shows up everywhere from book bans in our local schools to something as massive as the January 6th insurrection. It’s hard to make sense of it. And sometimes, it seems so chaotic, it’s difficult to know how to even respond to it. That’s where we can help.
Every week, we’re creating videos and explainers to help break things down. Most importantly, we share easy actions — sometimes small, sometimes big — you can take to stand up to extremism wherever it rears its ugly head. Check out our limited series podcasts, our Project 2025 tracker, and our guide to extremist groups like Moms for Liberty.
REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM
It’s simple: women should be in charge of our own bodies – not politicians. If you’re like most women, you didn’t think you’d live to see the day when daughters have less rights than their mothers did.
Since the overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022, many states have passed extremely restrictive abortion laws or abortion bans. And they aren’t stopping there. Now they are coming after our access to birth control and in vitro fertilization (IVF). And with Trump back in office and Project 2025 being implemented, a national abortion ban could be just around the corner. It’s all related and it’s all about control over all our reproductive rights. But we decide if and when to grow our families, not politicians, and it’s up to us to stop this from happening.
PUBLIC EDUCATION
Extremist politicians and outside groups have been attacking our kids’ education for years through book banning, harassing teachers and librarians, and even bullying students. The Costs of Conflict in our schools is very real — public schools spent $3.2B fighting these culture wars just last year!
And now, Trump is restricting what gets taught, targeting trans kids and their families, growing school voucher programs which are already diverting public funds to private schools in many states, and eliminating the Department of Education, fulfilling a Project 2025 promise.
Well, suburban women aren’t having it. We want ALL children to have access to an accurate, honest education that will prepare them for the future. We need strong, well-funded public schools so our kids grow up well-rounded and informed, with strong critical thinking skills. We need access to the federal resources that help our students who need support beyond what their state can provide. We need to keep extremists off our school boards. We need to protect our public schools.
LGBTQ+ RIGHTS
Threats to LGBTQ+ kids keep coming. Whether it’s banning books and pride flags, or state laws and federal executive orders attacking transgender kids’ access to healthcare and youth sports, the extreme right is weaponizing our kids for political gain.
Radical groups are trying to convince people they’re concerned about “Parents Rights” (spoiler alert – they’re not). What it’s really about is a very small, very loud group of people trying to impose their beliefs on everyone else. And it doesn’t stop there. We’re watching the implementation of Project 2025, the far-right extremists’ vision for America. It plans to remove federal protections for all LGBTQ+ people, establish a “biblically based” definition of marriage and family, and demonize – and potentially criminalize – transgender people.
Everyone has the right to be safe, to live and love, and thrive. Together, let’s fight for a future that helps us all become the best, most authentic version of ourselves.
Anti-Racism
America has certainly taken steps towards reducing racism since our founding, but we still have a long way to go.
With Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs under attack, Immigrants being dehumanized and targeted for mass deportation, diverse authors’ books being banned at disproportionate rates, and with Black and brown mothers dying at higher rates than white mothers, we still have so much work to do. And that’s just a few examples.
It is not enough to not be racist. We have to work hard — sometimes stepping outside of our comfort zone — to identify and fight back against racism when we see it. This is one of our values and we hold events and salons all year long on how to be anti-racist in the work we do across all issues.
The Economy
The economy is top of mind for women in every suburb in America. Moms are trying their best to do it all, and we’re usually the ones handling the day-to-day expenses in our homes.
We keep hearing about tariffs and egg prices, but what does it all mean? And what’s going to actually give us some relief in the checkout lines and at the gas pump? What we need are facts.
And while we’re making sense of it all, the President and his billionaire buddies want to give tax cuts to the wealthy, and they’re telling us there may be some economic “disruption” but they’re ok with it! We need to be clear about how we got here and how we can use our voices for change.
Voting Rights
Extremists are relentless — and devious — in their attempts to gain and maintain power. All across the country they are chipping away at our right to vote. This isn’t new; many of our states have been fighting gerrymandering for years. And voter suppression bills have been around ever since voting rights were expanded beyond white men.
Now, under the guise of “election security,” we’re seeing an all out assault on the voting rights of women, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, Black people, and other marginalized communities. But we can fight these efforts.
MAGA can’t pass these federal bills alone, and there are also opportunities in our states to pass good election laws. Our vote is our power and we won’t let them take it away. We’re holding special Troublemaker Trainings, Salon events, and in-person events all year long to show you how to stand up for our voting rights.
